The first important artificial intelligence law in the world was implemented by the European Union.
The idea of artificial intelligence regulation was mooted in 2021, but with the advent of GPT chat in 2022 and its impressive text generation capabilities, the issue gained urgency until the European Parliament passed the “Artificial Intelligence Law” earlier this year.
Artificial intelligence generation tools such as Dal-e and Midjourney that can generate images from any simple text also highlighted the need to pass this law.
Ursula van der Leyen, president of the European Commission, announced that “the new AI law aims to protect people and their interests, while providing rules to give businesses and innovators confidence.”
The EU Commission is also preparing to increase AI investments by injecting €1 billion in 2024 and up to €20 billion by 2030.
